Text Manager Update tool settings

Text Manager dialog

SettingDescription
Insert

Creates new database records (each with unique MSLINK values) from text strings or text nodes. The values of the associated text strings or text nodes are inserted into the specified columns. For example, if text strings are used and the table value is LOT and the column value is NUM,OWNER, text strings will set the LOT.NUM column only. If text nodes with two or more text strings are used, both the LOT.NUM and LOT.OWNER columns are set.

Join

Links text elements to existing database records. The value of the text element corresponds to a value in a unique database record. Join searches for a match between the text element value and the specified table column value and uses the record’s MSLINK value to construct a database linkage for the element.

Update

Modifies database records to reflect value changes made to associated text strings. Update assumes that the text nodes/elements are linked to a database row.

Select

Loads, into text elements or nodes, values that are stored in the columns specified in the Columns text field. For text nodes, all columns are used; otherwise, only the first column is used. If the text strings or text nodes identified are in the master file they are modified and the original text information is not displayed. If they are in a reference file, new text nodes are written to the master file.

Table

Used to key in the table name upon which to operate. Click the Browse button to open the Table List box, which displays available table names.

Column

Used to key in the column name or names upon which to operate. Click the Browse button to open the Column List box, which displays available column names.

Use Fence

Specifies that the selected command (Insert, Join, Update, or Select) should operate on text elements contained within a fence.
